They form Belgian’s “green lung”.

In 1977, Belgium was completely restructured territorially to merge its large number of districts. Durbuy has since been made of 12 former districts.

Although Durbuy is the smallest city in the world, it has so very much to offer its visitors: walks, hiking, mountain biking, horse riding, golf, kayaking, rock-climbing, caving, museums,… And yet the 41 villages and hamlets that make up the district have managed to preserve their traditions. Durbuy has been selected as one of the ten European tourist destinations of excellence 2007-2008: Aim of this pilot project from the European Commission: to draw attention to the value, diversity and shared characteristics of European tourist destinations, and to promote destinations where the economic growth objective is pursued in such a way as to ensure the social, cultural and environmental sustainability of tourism.
